Banyan Street Manor Apartments, a 55 unit multi-family affordable community located at 1122 Banyan Street in the heart of Honolulu, Hawaii consists of a single four-story residential building. The residential low-rise building has 12 one-bedroom units and 43 two-bedroom units, laundry and community facilities. This project is an important part of the publicly assisted housing market in metropolitan Honolulu where market-rate housing is extremely expensive and the demand for affordable multi-family housing is very high.

AHE invested over $2.6 million renovating Banyan Street Manor (approximately $48,000/unit).  Development of the rehabilitation plan began with a detailed review of available maintenance information to determine the remaining useful life of the interiors.  The rehabilitation focused on major systems repairs, Americans with Disabilities Act improvements, health and life-safety improvements, any upgrades required by City and County ordinances as well as the addition of a manager’s office.

Interior renovation included new kitchen cabinets/countertops, an upgrade of the electrical system to include new fixtures and GFCI/AFCI switches and replacement of flooring and tub surrounds.   Common area upgrades include improvements to the hallway and common area lighting. The interiors of all 55 units were completely renovated to bring them up to market standards. AHE also incorporated green improvements at Banyan Street Manor (solar hot water heaters and photovoltaic panels) to improve the energy efficiency, including a functional "living wall" that decreases heat gain and traffic noise in the area.
